Why a custom panel changes the door
A built-in dishwasher door is counterbalanced so it falls slowly and stays put halfway. On an integrated machine that balance has to carry the door plus whatever the cabinetmaker hung on it, and a solid timber or stone-faced panel is a great deal heavier than the stainless front the mechanism was set up for. The balance is set at installation for that weight. Get it wrong, or let it drift as the springs relax with age, and the door either drops the last stretch with a bang or has to be lifted shut.
